Why B Corp?

First, let’s start with what a B Corp is. B Corp is a certification given to businesses that meet rigorous standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency. The certification is granted by the nonprofit organisation B Lab, which has a mission to use business as a force for good.

B Corp certification is increasingly recognized as a mark of sustainability and social responsibility and is sought after by businesses that want to differentiate themselves in a crowded marketplace. In addition, B Corp certification can help businesses attract and retain employees, investors, and customers that are passionate about sustainability.

Our Journey

We got to find out about B Corp when a client of ours was working towards the B Corp certification and as we work quite a bit in governance and environmental it was great to see an assessment which was being provided for companies to review where they are in the stages of their Environmental, Social and Governance framework. we were motivated to align our business practices with our values and the B Corp pre-assessment tool allows you to do this, whilst also giving you great information against the Sustainability Development Goals alignment through their SDG Manager and benchmarking against others in your field or industry.

We wanted to ensure we were doing our part to create a sustainable future for ourselves and future generations.

Initially, we familiarised ourselves with the B Corp framework and assessed our current practices against the standards. It gave us lots of areas where we could make improvements found many areas to improve, including our supply chain, employee benefits, and governance.

Over several months, we made changes to our business practices and policies to align with the B Corp standards and with what we were now doing. We engaged our team and various stakeholders in the process, which helped to build buy-in and support for our sustainability goals.

Finally, we applied for B Corp certification in December 2022 and are now pending assessment with B Lab. We hope to join a community of businesses committed to sustainability and social responsibility.
